Prince Andrea Baldini flies to La Franqui testing CHS Aero 2016 … While at Gruissan there is Defi.
After a few months of development the Challenger comes out with a few prototypes 2016 in sizes from Speed: from 7.0 the 5.0.
RIW: Hello Prince, at what point and’ the development of Aero 2016?
P: Greetings to all readers of RIWmag! I would say a great place … view from behind almost moves me !
RIW: What has changed?
P: last year the CHS asked to broaden the range of small sails soprainvelatura … then some changes have been made to increase range and stability.
We started from the 5.4 We made 4 prototypes with millimetric changes every time. We closed the 2nd and 3rd Batten above the boom that still, as our philosophy, will never be completely closed. Then we have slightly reduced the fat base slat and crosses the boma.
RIW: What is the feeling now?
P: the sail is lighter, more stable and faster … my favorite is the 5.8 handcrafted!
I did try Giorgio Giorgi, combined with the legendary Mistral 41 and it was with a smile for a long time! After a few run snatched 42, 76kts with 41kts on 10 seconds! Not bad for the first exit speed
RIW: So you're a good coach ... and most of all you've done well on the sail?
P: No, no … Giorgio is physically and mentally worn for speed!
RIW: About trees?
P: the speed everything is taken to the extreme and then trees must respond to perfection ... Alive and progressive.
In this regard, we have implemented two measures of trees that we thought we put into production as a special line speed (or strong wind slalom) … But maybe we'll talk about it in more detail on another occasion! For now I can say that my 380 and 400 they go very well!
RIW: There was strong wind during the Defi … the race was cancelled one day ... How was the condition in La Franqui?
P: In La Franqui there are normally 10 more nodes, When is strong …
Also in La Franqui was tough … one morning he rang up to 70kts and it was not possible to browse … for the rest we have to test the equipment in harsh conditions!
RIW: You've been to see the Defi?
P: Of course which was fun ... I have reviewed dozens of friends with whom for years have competed in the World Cup and that for one reason or another not met more … as the great Finian who told me that he enjoyed after a strong 4th place in heat just ended!
Anyway enjoy the incredible sight that is the fleet departure all the windsurfing is a great feeling ... for once without the hustle and bustle of participation!!!
I have to say that it takes a good deal of luck and experience to guess the equipment and the departure because conditions can change during the race … Quentel Julien did all 4 tests with the wave sail … The experience is essential: not surprisingly the locals Mortefon, Waremburg and Moretti have closed in the first 6 ... often before heavy names like Albeau, Maynard, Dunkerbeck, Bringdal, Moussilmani, Van Der Steen etc. .. ! If not then it starts off with the first becomes a triumph of crossings in the rear
I was pleased to see that my friend Tine Slabe always nice and smiling, with his glasses "Different", (Pictured here with me, with Bjorn Dunkerbeck in the background) did an amazing 17° in a hard-driven heat always CHS!!!
RIW: Well, back to the speed and at CHS 2016. Have you tried other sails?
P: 5.0, 5.4, 6.2 and 7.0 . Here is on 7 I would like to dwell ... 4 with borders 7 all between 39,5 and 40, 2kts: Super satisfied!!!
I've never struggled and I enjoyed!!! Now Andrea Ferin (said Mac Gyver ) together with John B Sail Designer, is working great on masts and sails ... I am sure we will still improve a product already at the highest level!!!
RIW: Thanks Prince, Until next time!
P: grazie a Voi, Forever Speed!!!
English version
Prince Andrea Baldini was flying at La Franqui while testing the new CHS Aero 2016 … while at Gruissan there was the Defi. After a few months of development Challenger Sails comes out with some prototypes 2016 on the speed sizes from 7.0 to 5.0.
RIW: Hello Prince, where did you get with the development of the Aero 2016?
P: Greetings to all RIWmag readers! I would say at a great point … whatching the leech from the back … I could almost cry for the emotion !
RIW: What has been changed?
P: Last year the CHS riders asked for expanding the usage range of the small sizes, therefore in order to sail more comfortable in overpowered conditions there were made some changes to increase range and stability. We started from the 5.4, we made 4 prototypes with small changes of millimetres every time. We closed slightly the second and third battens above the boom that however, as in our philosophy, will never be completely closed. Then we have slightly reduced the profile on the lower batten and on the batten that crosses the boom.
RIW: How do you feel the sail now?
P: It is lighter, more stable and faster … my favourite one is the 5.8 handcrafted! I let Giorgio Giorgi to try it together with the legendary Mistral 41 … He remain stocked and with a long lasting smile! After few runs he smashed 42,76kts with 41kts in 10 seconds! Not bad for his first speed session
RIW: So were you a good coach … and did you work super well on the rig?
P: No no … ☺ Giorgio is physically and mentally made for speed sailing!
RIW: What about the Mast?
P: Within speed sailing everything is taken to the extreme so the mast must reach the perfection … it has to be Alive and progressive. That’s why we did two sizes of Mast that we are thinking to put in production as a special LTD speed-line (good as well for slalom in strong winds) … But maybe we’ll talk about that soon … Next time! For now I can say that my 380 and 400 are very good!
RIW: There was strong wind during the Defi … the race was cancelled one day … How was at La Franqui?
P: At La Franqui there are usually 10 knots more, when it is strong … Also at La Franqui it was tough … One morning it was smoking at 70kts and it was not possible to sail for few hours … Anyway we had the possibility to test the equipment in hard conditions!
RIW: Have you been to see the Defi?
P: Of course, and it was great fun … I saw dozens of friends of the Speed World Cup that for one reason or another I didn’t meet for a while … like the great Finian who told me he had fun after a great 4th place in the heat he had just ended! However the departure of the fleet with all those sailboards is an amazing spectacle … for once without the “hurry” of the race!!!
For the Defi you need a good training, good experience and some good luck as well! It’s crazy important to guess the right equipment and to do a good start … because conditions can change during the race… Julien Quentel made the race with a wave sail …
The experience is crucial: it’s not a case that the Locals Mortefon, Waremburg and Moretti have finished in the top 6 … often in front of big names like Albeau, Maynard, Dunkerbeck, Bringdal, Moussilmani, Van Der Steen etc …!
If you do not start well … after it will be a mess☺
I was happy to see that my friend Tine Slabe, always nice and smiling with his glasses “Different”, did a great 17th in a tough heat, with his CHS!!!
RIW: Well, back to the speed and the CHS 2016, which other sails did you try?
P: 5.0, 5.4, 6.2 and 7.0. I was stocked by the 7.0 … I had 4 runs between 39.5 and 40,2kts: super happy!!! I really enjoyed it!!! Now Andrea Ferin (Mr. MacGyver ☺) together with The CHS Sail Designer Claudio Badiali, is working hard on the bigger mast and sails … I am sure it will come a great job!!!
RIW: Thanks Prince, see you!
P: thank you! Forever Speed!!!
