Antoine Albeau, Windsurfing World Speed Record at 53, 27kts!!!
Antoine Albeau (RRD, NeilPryde, Garmin, Quiksilver, PNJ Cam.com, Chris Benz, Ford, Orange, Yamaha WaveRunners) could be an old Knight: Tonio the bold! 23 World Titles, 4 Europeans, 12 French!!!
From Freestyle, to Speed, passing through Slalom, Formula and SuperX.
He had several medals (also Golden) the Sports Academy in Paris and that's a great thing for our sport!
With his heart from pushing its limits Knight trying to overcome them!
Claimed his first world record in the 5 March 2008 to Stes Marie de la Mer : 49,09KTs and in that case it was the absolute record, Outright Speed World Record.
Principle: Salut Champ! Welcome to Riwmag and congratulations on all your achievements and titles. How did you feel the day you made the record … Before you begin to push and when?
Antoine Albeau: I knew he could be "The Day" but nothing was safe ... Two days before there was Gale and I had two heavy crashes ... I didn't want to fall again and maybe break the equipment ... so I was super concentrated and it was my Day!!!
P: How was your best run, what you heard and how were the conditions?
A2: The conditions were Apocalyptic, almost impossible to navigate … I was the only (for most of the day) that was capable of entering into run ... a lot of wind, much chop, and a lot of sand that flew in the wind.
P: What was your first thought when you saw your GPS and then the official time?
A2: At first I saw the GPS and I was blown away by what I saw ... I knew though that the run was good … but I couldn't wait to get to know the official time and when I have communicated the result I almost cried ... how much effort, and support from my partner ... I was really happy to have achieved this goal ... but it was still daylight so I hopped back on the table and I did a lot of incredible run.
P: Something about you … height, weight and years.
A2: 1.86m / 99,9kg / 43
P: When did you start taking Speed?
A2: Hum ... parcchio time ago ... perhaps Fuerte 1994.
P: What is for you the Speed?
A2: Go fast in run ... but when you do in Luderitz for the record ... then it's a different kind of Speed!
P: What is the main difference between Slalom and Speed?
A2: In Slalom you are with other guys around, While at the Speed you're alone in the run and try to go as fast as possible.
P: Do you think a sail which is fine for Speed can fit also for Slalom?
A2: You, I think a Slalom Sail goes well in Speed, trimmandola slightly differently and maybe changing the tree.
P: I think with the Windsurfing has got close to his limit with your records ... About what you think we should work to get even stronger?
A2: There are many people on the planet can go at this speed, Believe me!!!
P: There's a moment that for some reason you like to remember in your career Speed?
A2: The channel of Stes Marie and Luderitz were my best moments ... but remember again even when I paint strippers to fine several riders doing Speed with waves of Fuerte. (World champion 2008 Fuerte ndr )
P: I remember, in the run where thou didst 49,09 at Stes MAries (5 March 2008), When you looked at the GPS and haven't seen the 50kts (49,9) at the end of the Canal, you made a gesture of annoyance ... even though I did the world record … Behavior as a true fighter!!! Since then you feel improved or is it just a matter of equipment and Channel?
A2: Certainly the equipment is significantly better than the 2008, first and foremost the asymmetrical fins that make a big difference!!!
P: It is a pity that since 2009 There is more on the World Cup circuit of Speed, Maybe you even had a few more than the current title 23
This year it seemed there was an option to have the Speed Windsurfing World Championship during The Mondial Du Vent in the 20th anniversary of the event ... but it seems that the ISWC (International Speed Windsurfing Class) didn't want to concede the world windsurfing Speed at MDV (where there was a stage of World Cup Kite Speed ... race anyway where there were also windsurfers who ran only for glory and prizes ... ).
How would you see a Speed World Championship for windsurfing in La Franqui (Leucate)? You would participate?
A2: Leucate is the best place for Speed Worlds and I don't understand why we don't have ... Every year we organize a big event (MDV by Pascal Maka ndr) with the official timing!!!
P: I saw that there is a nice novelty in your life (a baby coming) ... congratulations!!!
A2: Thank you!
P: I see that for a while you browse all happy with windsurfing Foil … can you give us an idea of the feeling and the possibilities that you may have with foil?
A2: With the foil is Windsurfing in 3D, è pazzesco! From 2000 vado col foil in windsurf ma adesso sto studiando con F4 fin (di San Francisco), abbiamo appena fatto un altro progresso e si andrà più forte col foil.
P: Cosa vorresti chiedere e dare ancora allo sport?
A2: Voglio andare più veloce col Windsurf col foil e avvicinarmi a Sail Rocket (Paul Larsen detiene l’Outright World Speed Record con 65,45kts su 500mt ndr).
P: Hey baby bomb! Merci di essere stato su Riwmag … e … Forever Speed!!!
Antoine could be an ancient Knight: Tonio le hardi! 23 World title!!! From freestyle to the speed, Slalom, Formula etc…
The Sport Man of the year in France: big thing for our Sport!!!
He has fun … but he never makes a step on the back… no fear!
He is a real waterman: tow in big waves, wave riding, SUP, Slalom, Formula Speed … all!
With his heart of Knight he always push his limit trying to move it forward!
He got his first world speed record the 5th march 2008 at Stes Maries de la Mer with 49.09 and it was the Outright World Speed Sailing record!
In 2012 he did the windsurfing world record with 52,05kts.
And this year at Luderitz Speed Challenge with 30 runs over 50kts he reach the average on 500mt of 53,27(World Record Windsurfing Speed).
Principle: Salut Champ! Welcome to Riwmag and congraz for all you did!!!
What did you feel the day you did the record … Before to start to knockin’on … and during?
Antoine Albeau: I knew that day could be the day but nothing was sure, it was super windy and 2 days before I had 2 big crashes and I didn’t wanted to crash again this day and broke equipment, so I was super concentrate and my day.
P: How was your best run, what did you feel and which was the condition?
A2: Condition were apocalyptic, almost impossible to go, I was the only one most of the day to be able to take the run, lots of wind, lots of chop and lots of sand flying in the wind.
P: What was your first thought when you saw the score in gps and the official?
A2: First I saw on my GPS and I was amaze to see it but before to look at the GPOS I knew the run was good, so then after that I wanted to see the official timing, and then they told me and I was almost crying, so much effort and support from my partners that I was so happy to achieve this, so the day was still one so I jump in water again and made amazing run again.
P: About you: how tall you are, your age and your weight.
A2: 1.86 / 99.9kg / 43
P: What were you using in your fastest run in Luderitz : sail, mast, board, fin, weight?
A2: 5.2 / gun RRD 40 cm / Z fin 18
P: When did you start speedsailing?
A2: Hum … long time ago in Fuerte, maybe 94
P: What is for you the speedsailing?
A2: Going fast on the run but you have the speed in Luderitz for the record, this is a different kind of speed.
P: Which is for you the main difference in feeling between slalom and speed?
A2: Slalom you are with some other guys around and speed you are alone on the run and you are trying to go as fast as you can.
P: Do you think one sail good in speed can be good in slalom as well (I speak for small size … windy slalom day) or you trim in really different way (in the same conditions)?
A2: Yes, I think a slalom sail can be good in speed, you will trim it a bit different and maybe not the same mast.
P: I think we are close to the limits with your record … what in your opinion should we improve to get higher the speed in windsurfing?
A2: Not much people can go this speed on the planet, believe me!!!
P: Do you have one moment, that for some reason you like to remember in your speed life?
A2: Canal des Saintes and Luderitz are going to be my best moment, but I also remember go days in Fuerte on the run with the waves and I was kicking ass!!!
P: I remember when you did 49,09 and you didn’t see 50 on gps for 0,1 (in the end of the Canal) and you was a bit disappointed … even with the world record … 5 march 2008 … as a real Fighter!!! Do you feel better than that time (cause you are Ultra Fast J) or is it just about the Canal and equipment improvement?
A2: For sure the equipment is much better than in 2008, first the fins are asymmetrical and this make a huge difference.
P: It’s a pity that from 2009 there was not World Cup of Speed anymore … probably you would have been achieved some title more This year there was been a possibility to organize the Windsurfing World Speed Championship during the Mondial Du Vent … but the ISWC didn’t give the right to the MDV …
How would you see a Speed World Championship at La Franqui? You would like to take part in case in the future could be on?
A2: Leucate will be the best place for the Speed Worlds and I don’t understand why we don’t have it, every year they organize a great event with good timing!!!
P: I see some big news in your life … congratulations (baby is coming)!!!
P: I see you sailing with a big smile on the windsurfing foil … Can you give us an idea of what is the feeling and the possibility we could have with the foil?
A2: Foiling is windsurfing in 3D, this is amazing, it is since 2000 I foil on the windsurf, but now I have been working on it with the F4 fins from San Francisco and we just pass another level and more speed will come with the foil.
P: What would you really like to achieve more in the Sport?
A2: I want to go more fast on the windsurf with foil and get closer to the Sail Rocket!
P: Hey baby bomb! Merci to be in RIWmag … and … Forever Speed!!!
