Principle: The first time you've met was in Ireland in December 2008, with his black tank top ... after 10 I tried to convince pints of Guinness to go surfing in The Brace, that ad super fast (still unknown) in the North of Holland … the first impact was a little weird ... maybe because of the black tank top and blond hats all sorted … but after 3 seconds I realized that this guy had the eyes of the Tiger!!!
A year later it exploded ... at the World Championship of Karpathos 2009 5° arrived just behind the unique giant by then (Finian, Antoine, Unlike, Bjorn) ... and was 5° to European in Dungarvan.
Has already seen twice the 54kts on his GPS to the Brace and Plage du Rouet in may 2015!
Finally on his third attempt in Luderitz was given the opportunity to express its great potential ... The fastest of the LSC 2018 It is he: Blue Steel with 52.26 kts about 500mt!!! Third ever!!! (all records are still awaiting official ratification by the WSSRC).
Principle: Hey Hansi Boy!!! It seems that you will have to offer some beer is!!! The fastest speed sailor of Luderitz 2018!!! Welcome to the Speed Knight (The Knights of Speed!!!)
Hans: You'll get your beers as soon as I come to the Rouet to train!
P: How did you feel after your Dutch Record on first day of wind (formerly owned by Jurjen Van Der Noord: 51,26kts – Luderitz 2012) the 2 November 2018: 51.61Kts ... then improved 6-11 with 51.98 and finally 52.26 the 22 November?
H: Enthusiastic but strangely I didn't feel fully satisfied ... as I would have expected to feel! But I am very proud we did!!!
P: What was your greatest emotion during these weeks in Namibia?
H: How much I missed my little Puck a few months (Hans's father recently ... )
P: What equipment did you use in your run faster 22 November?
H: Neil Pryde EVO XI proto 5.4 / JP Werner Gnigler Speed Custom 40 cm / Z-fins 19 Asy SB .
P: How to change equipment and trim if you surf to Plage du Rouet or channel of Luderitz?
H: Haha that's what everyone wants to know ... but some secrets the I gotta keep to myself ... The channel you need much more downhaul than when you browse the Rouet.
P: While viaggiagi to Luderitz ... what speed were you hoping to achieve? What was your goal?
H: My first goal was the 50kts, the second Dutch record, the third completely dominate the world ... but this did not work.
P: What was the atmosphere with other Knights?
H: A very nice atmosphere … It seemed more like a brotherhood … everyone was helping each other … Also on trimming ... but to a certain extent ... as I have learned from past experience.
P: You have your own personal style. … and it seems to work Can you tell us something about?
H: My style is very straight, the body is on and BOOM far down … very direct and aggressive but difficult to control. Some time Jacques v/d Hout or Vincent Valkenaers have tried my setup but couldn't navigate. Maybe because it's cut for my location, my style and the pressure point.
P: What were you thinking just before the corner (When the channel curves sharply from Tan to much slack) in your run faster?
H: More more more, you finally some power!!!
P: The fins used in Luderitz have the same rake of those you use in Europe in your releases in gps?
H: Have the same serial fins that I sell from my online store windsurfcandy.com and developed by Z-fins.
P: What are your goals for the future?
H: Establish new limits and make faster equipment, ultimate goal and great dream is the world record on 500 m. Only thing 1 months ago I thought was impossible but now I realize that in the future could become reality!
P: Maybe in 2019 you could also try to conquer the world record over a mile to the Prince of Speed Hoping that this time you don't have back problems!!!
H: If I get time I will certainly.
P: Do you like to sail in open seas? What is the thrill in the channel and offshore?
H: The open sea is my great passion, the harsh fight to climb upwind in the waves in a nature at its most harsh, with small tables and asymmetric fins, is beautiful. Do you generate so much adrenaline and satisfaction that you remain in the brain.
The channel is done to perfection ... nothing upwind and the angle is similar to when we leave in offshore slingshot … but to 500mt. My greatest wish is to find the channel the condition that I had the Brace on my offshore Vmax 54kts records ... Perfect wind, flat water and full control in the midst of the elements ...
P: Are you afraid sometimes under certain conditions ... some days?
H: In 2015 When I did 54kts to Plage du Rouet I stopped because I was too afraid of not being able to check the condition after a fall at my fastest run sixth and.
I tried a seventh run but I was at the mercy of the elements, the wind blew over to 60kts, the water level was becoming difficult and after slingshot was unable to control especially if you took the flurry at the end. But normally not afraid with ease.
P: This is your year Hans!!! You made a big step forward at work, you are the father of a beautiful baby girl … and eventually the exploit in Luderitz …
H: I'm really happy with all these things ... they did shine my future of a great light ... especially my daughter Puck. This year has been and is somewhat hectic even with my new job … probably time will come. I went out to the water to make speed only 27 times before Luderitz and honestly I'm not quite. Luderitz gave me a nice boost and showed my skill and experience I have repaid. In combination with a real workout next year I can do a lot more for surfing and bring your Speed to another level.
P: We are all happy for your results ... and we know that it is just a new beginning … Congratulations to RIWmag …. and Forever Speed!!!
H: Thank you my friend!!! I hope that readers and readers of RIWmag will follow me on my social to be updated!!! Forever Speed!!! Hey Prince dedicated a little’ more to see how you go with GPS … I am sure you will set yourself

Principle: First time I met him in Ireland 2008 … with his black summer t shirt after 10 pints of Guinness ...
Pushing me to go to try the Grill ... the super fast Dutch commercials … First look was a bit "too modern fashion" but after 3 second I realized that the young guy had already the eyes of the tiger …
1 year later he was exploding in world cup with some great performance like 5th at the World Championship 2009 at Karpathos and 5th at European Championship 2009 in Dungarvan!
Already 2 times over 54 kts top speed at Le Rouet and the Brace … Finally he got some good wind in Luderitz to show his Talent!!! Blu Steel is the 3rd Fastest Windsurfer ever on 500mt!!!
(all the records are subject to official ratification by the World Sailing Speed Record Council).
P: Hey Hansi Boy!!! Looks like you have to offer some beer mate!!! The fastest sailor of Luderitz 2018!!! Welcome to the Speed Knight!!!
H: You will when I get back at Le Rouet for some training!
P: Which was the bigger emotion of all this Namibian time?
H: Missing my baby girl Puck.
P: Which equipment were you using in your fastest run?
H: Neilpryde Evo XI proto 5,4 / JP Werner Gnigler speed custom 40 / 19 Z-fins asy SB
P: In which way you change equipment and trim for Le Rouet and the Canal?
H: Haha that what they all want to know but need to keep some tricks up my sleeve. For the canal you need a lot more downhaul than Le Rouet.
P: How fast you were hoping to go during your way to Luderitz? Which was your goal?
H: My first Goal was 50kts, my second was Dutch Record and third was complete world domination but that didn’t work out.
P: What about the atmosphere with the other Knights?
H: The atmosphere was really nice and it does feel more like a brotherhood everyone helps each other if they can. No matter what sometimes even trimming but always to a certain point. As I have learned from the past.
P: You have your own style … your own stance … that’s great … and it looks like it works Can you say something about it?
H: My style is really straight up body and a very low boom very direct and aggressive but hard to control. Sometimes Jacques v/d Hout or Vincent Valkenaers try my setup and they can’t sail it all. Maybe also because it is so trimmed to my stance and pressure point.
P: What were you thinking just before the corner in your fastest run?
H: More more more, yes finally power!!!
P: The fins you were using for Luderitz have the same rake which you use in the European GPS sessions?
H: Yes they are the same production fins that I sell in my web-shop windsurfcandy.com and developed with Z-fins.
P: What’s your goal for the future?
H: Setting new limits and making faster equipment, ultimate goal is the world record on 500mt. and a big dream. What I thought was impossible a month ago looks like it could be reality in the future.
P: Maybe in the 2019 you can try to challenge the World Record on the Mile at the Prince of Speed … hoping your back this time will be ok!!!
H: If I have time to come I will try for sure.
P: Do you like to sail in Open Water? What’s the different thrill in the canal and in open sea?
H: Open water is my biggest passion, rough condition also fighting yourself upwind on small asymmetric gear in the waves is beautiful and nature in it’s rawest form. Brings so much adrenaline and gives a lot of satisfaction and rest to the brain after. Canal is all made to perfection, no upwind and the angle downwind is almost the same as when we slingshot only then for 500 meters. My biggest wish is to get the same conditions on the canal as when I did my open water record maxing over 54 knots on The Brace boiling water perfect wind and fully in control over the all the elements.
P: Are you afraid some time … in some conditions … in some days?
H: In 2015 when I did 54 knots at Le Rouet I stopped because I was too scared, knew I could not control the conditions anymore after I crashed big time in my 6th run. Tried to do a 7th run but bailed out as the wind was pushing over 60knots, the water was getting nasty and after the slingshot stopping was getting impossible especially when a gust hits you at the end. But normally I don’t get scared easy.
P: This is your year Hans!!! You got better job … You had a Fantastic super cute baby … And finally the exploit at Luderitz …
H: Really happy with all these things makes the future look a lot brighter especially my daughter Puck. This year was and is still a bit hectic also with my work switch and probably will be coming time. Only had 27 sessions before I got to Luderitz which is honestly not enough. Luderitz gave me a boost and shows that my skills and experience prove a advantage. Combined with more proper training next year can be a lot better for surfing and taking speed to the next level.
P: We all are happy for your achievement … and we know it’s just the beginning …
A big Congratulations from RIWmag … and Forever Speed!!!
H: Thanks my friend!!! Hope all you guys/girls follow my socials to keep up to date.
Forever speed!!! Pick up a gps and check out how fast all of you can go.
I bet you get addicted to!!!
