Hundreds of athletes in Olbia to compete for the title of Italian Champion of the Windsurfer class
Presented this morning at a press conference the 47th edition of the Italian Windsurfer Championship organized by the Circolo Nautico Olbia
OLBIA. The first athletes have already arrived. Five minutes to assemble the equipment, put on the trapeze and off to the water to immediately try the regatta field and the conditions of the Pittulongu spot in Olbia. In these hours dozens of colorful sails whizz fast on the sea intriguing tourists and residents who stop from the beach to admire the show. Here, from Thursday, 16 Sun 19, the titles of the 47th Italian Windsurfer Championship in the Slalom disciplines will be awarded, Course Race, Long Distance and Freestyle. All the details of the event were illustrated during a press conference in the presence of the president of the Circolo Nautico Olbia, Mario Peralda, of the vice president Livio Fideli, of the mayor Settimo Nizzi, of the Councillor for Tourism Marco Balata, of the one to sport Monica Fois and the technical manager of the Circolo Francesco Fenu.
"The Windsurfer – explained Mario Peralda – is the first series board produced in the world after the invention of this sport. It had an explosive evolution and diffusion in the early years, then windsurfing was divided into a thousand rivulets, but the meaning of class regattas has been lost a bit, that combine both the sporting side and the tactics of regattas that are more typical of sailing disciplines. Today we can talk about a great return of this table. The new project is, in fact, attracting the attention of both master and younger regattas. The Circolo Nautico has managed to gain the trust of the Windsurfer Class and the assignment of these Italian championships. We will try to demonstrate the organizational quality put in place by our association, with the aim of being able to aspire to even more prestigious events. In fact, we are firmly determined to bring to Sardinia the world championships of this Class, hoping to still be able to count on the support of the Sardinia Foundation, of the administrations and sponsors who have trusted us. But this is tomorrow, for today I hope that everyone can enjoy the spectacle of hundreds of colorful sails that will battle in the coastal stretch between Pittulongu and Golfo Aranci".
Great enthusiasm for the event also by the mayor of Olbia, Settimo Nizzi, who commented: "It will be an important week for Olbia where a world stage of the aquabike will also take place. The stage is enviable, events are taking place capable of lengthening the season and triggering positive repercussions in terms of reception and attendance in mid-September. I thank the Maritime Directorate and the police for the precious collaboration that allows us to guarantee safety on land and at sea. We apologize to the citizens for some inconvenience, but I think such important manifestations are worth a small sacrifice".
Almost two hundred athletes from France are already registered for the regattas, Holland, Finland, Russia, Switzerland and Austria who will compete for the general classification in the same sessions in which the Italian athletes will compete for the national title. An event that also aims to promote the territory as stated by the councilor for tourism of the municipality of Olbia Marco Balata: "The Italian Championship of the Windsurfer Class is part of a project to enhance the territory following an agreement with the Fondazione di Sardegna that financially supports this event, important projects that enhance our natural excellences such as the Crossfit Shardana World Championship held in Pittulongu in the past".
On the same wavelength also the councilor for sport, Monica Fois: "We remind you that this competition is an event of national scope and in conjunction with the water bike that has a global value will also take place: a fantastic showcase that will offer a vast public the image of natural beauty of our marine scenery, our city and the excellent services we are able to offer".
Wind and weather conditions, as it happens in all regattas, will mark the time for the dispute of the competitions. The first appointment is scheduled for Thursday with the skipper meeting and the departure of the first batteries. Triangle routes also very complex, but for this fun for the athletes and for the public that will follow the event from the beach. For the occasion, a Regatta Village was set up, respecting Green and eco-sustainable logics, in full Californian style with ledwall monitor on which live images of the regattas will also be transmitted.
The Circolo Nautico Olbia was able to organize the event thanks to the sensitivity of the Fondazione di Sardegna, of the Municipality of Olbia, of, Italian Sailing Federation and the International Windsurfer Class Association.
