CICO 2021 FRECCIAROSSA, TRICOLORS OF OLYMPIC SAILING – FINAL
Final day of clouds, rain and uneven wind: few but decisive regattas.
The first Carlo Rolandi Challenge Trophy awarded to the winner of the Clubs ranking, the Guardia di Finanza Sailing Section wins. The award presented by Carlo's sons, Adele and Gigi Rolandi.
The greeting of FIV President Francesco Ettorre: "See you at CICO 2022".
The CICO has closed on the upper Lake Garda 2021 Frecciarossa, the Italian Championship of the Olympic Classes of sailing that saw in the race 324 athletes in 11 Olympic and Para Sailing classes, including numerous foreigners from a total of well 23 Nations. The championship involved several locations with regatta fields in Malcesine (Para Sailing Hansa classes 303 and 2.4mR), Navene (Ship) (Formula Kite), Torbole (470 Mixed, Finn, windsurfing iQFOiL male and female), Bow (the acrobatic 49er, 49er FX and Nacra 17) and Riva del Garda (the individual ILCA 6 and ILCA 7).
The "little Olympics" of blue sailing has been confirmed as a successful event, for participation, the organization and also for the sporting aspect, with many regattas and almost total respect for the competitive program, thanks to the ideal conditions of the lake.
The CICO 2021 Frecciarossa sul Garda has also highlighted new technical standards: for the first time six regatta fields have been arranged in the water all equipped only with electric buoys, developed from the first tests in the post-lockdown of June 2020 until it reaches a reliability now close to the 100%. An investment made by the Garda Trentino Vela Consortium, recognized by IVF, thanks to the union of all the circles: Circolo Vela Torbole, Circolo Surf Torbole, Circolo Vela Arco, Naval League of Riva del Garda and Fraglia Vela Riva, as well as the municipalities of Torbole, Arco and Riva del Garda and institutions such as the Autonomous Province of Trento with Trentino Marketing and Garda Trentino. Thanks to the joint work, this CICO 2021 has achieved the ambitious goals that only in the 2020 seemed impossible to achieve.
The final day, as expected, it turned out to be difficult from a weather point of view: cloudy sky already in the morning, and then light rain, have prevented the usual circulation of the garda winds. Only the Para Sailing classes managed to make a regatta 2.4 mR and Hansa 303 Individual, iQFOiL windsurfing (the sailboard equipped with foil) and Formula Kite. In the afternoon they went out with light air even 470 and Finn da Torbole, and the individual ILCA 6 and 7 from Riva. Stop instead the acrobatic skiffs in Arco.
