In redazione abbiamo avuto l’opportunita’ di visionare il DVD “DON’T LET GO”, un film con protagonisti Flo Jung, Boujmaa Guilloul, Robby Swift e Camille Juban.
Sicuramente dietro a questa produzione c’e’ stata una ricerca ed un approfondimento nei contenuti che non si sono solo limitati all’azione e al gesto tecnico-sportivo, e percio’ a nostro avviso questo e’ un film che vale veramente la pena di guardare. Doveroso segnalare la davvero ottima qualita’ delle riprese e dei montaggi per una profondita’ di immagine che a volte sembra quasi tridimensionale nonostante non sia stata utilizzata la tecnologia 3D.
Ma per svelare qualcosa di piu’ sul film lasciamo la parola a Flo Jung, wave rider tedesco che gareggia nel PWA e coproduttore di questo progetto.

Post Produzione
Ci siamo dovuti chiudere in uno studio cinematografico per 6 settimane. I nostri hard disks hanno raggiunto un totale di 3 TB di riprese degli ultimi due anni. Ci sono volute delle settimane solo per fare la giusta selezione. Un altro fattore importante che ha richiesto un po ‘di tempo è stato quello di trovare le tracce musicali giuste per riuscire a creare una certa atmosfera. Michael A. Goldberg, un musicista tedesco, ha composto vari brani per noi, per raccogliere le emozioni all’interno delle scene drammatiche del film. Nel frattempo Manuel Grafenauer, Leon Jamaer ed io ci siamo occupati del montaggio.
Anteprime del film
Dopo aver avuto il tutto esaurito alle prime anteprime del nostro film nei cinema in Germania, Cile e Giappone, siamo stati più che felici di vedere tutti i nostri sforzi su uno schermo. Il feedback è stato incredibile e come squadra siamo riusciti ad ottenere il meglio. Poi mi sono reso conto che, se si tiene fede ai propri obiettivi, tutto si realizza in qualche modo anche se invisibile a prima vista. Quindi continuate a seguire i vostri obiettivi e “NON lasciateli andare”!
Interviste ai Riders
Robby Swift:
“Invece di “non lasciare andare”, il nome del film sarebbe dovuto piuttosto essere: “Si dovrebbe lasciare andare!” I miei luoghi preferiti erano Maui e il Cile. Quest’anno abbiamo avuto una mareggiata pazzesca in Cile a Punta de Lobos e a Maui si e’ avuto uno degli inverni più ventosi degli ultimi anni: quindi siamo stati un sacco di tempo in acqua a navigare. Questo e’ molto diverso da qualsiasi altro film di windsurf che ho visto finora. E ‘più emozionante e più personale rispetto a qualsiasi altro video, proprio per questo mi piace molto.”
Camille Juban:
“Noi non abbiamo voluto fare un altro film di windsurf che contenesse solo azione e condizioni perfette, no: questo è piuttosto un vero documentario di windsurf, con la vita di alcuni professionisti, che si spostano in giro per il mondo per seguire i loro sogni, con tutti gli alti e bassi – Spero che vi piaccia. “
Boujma Guilloul:
“E ‘il primo film di windsurf in cui sono stato seriamente coinvolto. Tutti sognano quello perfetto, quello che segnerà la storia del windsurf, azione, stile di vita, montaggio, musica ed emozioni, elementi che fanno differenza tra tutti. Una volta ottenuta l’impostazione perfetta allora si può fare un indimenticabile DvD, quello che voi ed io guarderemo più e più volte. E ‘stato davvero difficile per noi trovare i fondi e realizzare le nostre visioni su pellicola. Abbiamo lavorato con un budget limitato per andare in giro e filmare tutti insieme, poi noi tutti siamo rimasti vittime di incidenti durante la produzione. Penso che siamo stati maledetti 🙂 o forse è solo una parte della storia. Ho amato un po’ tutti i posti dove abbiamo girato, tutti gli spot sono stati molto divertenti per il windsurf, tutti diversi, ma ho sempre amato il mio home spot, che è il mio posto preferito. Ci si può aspettare diversi stili di windsurf con motivazioni e backgrounds molto diversi.”
Il Film
“DON’T LET GO” è un vero documentario sul windsurf. Girato in 10 diversi paesi nel corso degli ultimi due anni, sono stati catturati tutti gli aspetti della vita da windsurfer professionista. Dal viaggio in destinazioni remote, a cavalcare le onde più grandi, alla competizione nel tour mondiale, alla sofferenza per gli incidenti gravi e alla dura lotta per ritornare in forma. Ci sono tempi buoni e tempi cattivi, in ogni caso si devono mantenere vivi i propri sogni e non lasciarli andare.

DON’T LET GO A FILM ABOUT WINDSURFING – MAKING OF (second part, first part here)

POST PRODUCTION
We locked ourselves in a film studio and basically stayed there for the next 6 weeks. Our hard drives were filled up with 3 TB of footage from the last two years. It took weeks just to do the right selection. Another important fact that takes some time was to find the right music tracks in order to created a certain atmosphere. Michael A. Goldberg, a German music producer, composed various tracks for us, to raise emotion within the dramatic movie scenes. In the meantime Manuel Grafenauer, Leon Jamaer and myself took care of the movie cut.
MOVIE PREMIERS
After the first movie premiers with sold out cinemas in Germany, Chile and Japan, we were more than happy to see all the efforts on screen. The feedback was amazing as a team we made the best out of it. Afterwards I realized that if you stick to your own goals everything comes together in a ways- even though it invisible at first sight. So, keep following your goals and “DON’T LET GO”!

Robby Swift
Instead of “Don’t Let Go”,the name of the movie would rather be: “Should have let go!” My favorite locations were Maui and Chile. We had a sick swell in Chile this year at Punta De Lobos which was amazing and Maui had one of the windiest winters for a very long time, so we got in a lot of sailing. It’s very different from any other windsurfing movie I have seen so far. It is more emotional and more personal than any other video, so I really like that about it.
Camille Juban
We don’t want to show another windsurf movie just with good action and perfect conditions, no- it’s more about a true documentation of windsurfers and there life as a pro, traveling arround the world to follow their dreams with all ups and downs- I hope you enjoy it ” – Camille Juban
Boujma Guilloul
“It is the first windsurfing movie I’ve been seriously involved in, we all dream about the perfect one, the one that will mark the history of windsurfing, action, lifestyle, editing, music and emotions, elements that make difference between all, once you get the perfect set up, then you can make an unforgettable DVD the one, that you and me will watch over and over again. It has been really hard for us, to find funds and to realize our visions on film. We are working with a tight budget to get around and film together, moreover we all have been injured during the production. I think we re cursed 🙂 or it is just part of the story. I loved pretty much everywhere we filmed, all the spots were good fun windsurfing, all different, but I always love my place, which is my personal favorite spot. You can expect different styles of windsurfers with very different motivations and backgrounds”
