06/07/2019 – For the last day of EFPT in Lanzarote, another round of the junior Division was scheduled. Unfortunately the wind was too light for the whole morning and started to pick up around the 14.00, without giving enough time to start and finish the single and double elimination for more’ young.
With many spectators on the beach and athletes eager to go into water, has launched a session of supercross. 17 professional riders, two crew members and all eight junior EFPT riders have signed up for the popular format, combining slalom racing and freestyle moves. The riders had to trick the upwind leg, a loop forward on the second edge and a downwind on the final edge. Each buoy had to be passed with a duckjibe.
It was very funny to see a fleet of 19 riders compete against each other, launching big maneuvers on each edge. The most popular ploy to windward and’ the kono, and some riders were coming out faster than they were entered. Maneuvering downwind most riders chose the butt or the spock before passing the finish line. Professional fleet raced four times with some obvious favourites: Steven Van Broeckhoven Win (Gunsails / Starboard), Kiri Thode (Severne), Davy Scheffers (Tabou Ga) and Sam Esteve (JP / Neilpryde) led the group in most races. To win at the end was Steven Van Broeckhoven win by winning two rounds, in front of Kiri Thode and Davy Scheffers.
The juniors have raced three times, with a clear leader – Lennart Neubauer (Starboard). Lennart concluded two races in first place, followed by Eugene Marconi (Challenger, i99) in second place and Tigo Kort in third place.
Given that and’ was all in the name of fun, the last round over water saw the entire fleet of professionals and junior together. It really seemed that the riders enjoyed the race and there were even required to race a supercross at each event.
The big awards ceremony where prizes will be awarded to all winners of this event will take place this evening in front of the Melia Salinas Hotel, host organization and riders, together at Sands Beach Resort, already in the last two years. The podium of the fleet pro is a reflection of the podium of the last years. Antony Ruenes (Tabou, GA) finished third after a big fight in the double elimination and Yentel Caers (i99, P7) eliminated once Adrien Bosson (Duotone / Fanatic) in the double elimination, who was the leader after deleting single, to claim his third victory in EFPT 2019.
Lennart Neubauer took first place in the U16, followed by Tigo Kort and Bodhi Khempen and Nil Bacon Aubert, who won the Division Under 18 followed by Eugene Marconi and Stefan de Bell.
Nil Bacon Aubert is now leading the overall standings U18, While Neubauer is leading the U16. With an event for juniors in October, the Chase for the title in both divisions remains exciting.
