FUERTE ACTION WS SPEED WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2023

A press release from the organization of the Fuerte Action Windsurfing Speed World Championship 2022:

“The World Windsurfing Speed Championships, originally planned for the period 30.06-04.07.2022, had to be deleted and rescheduled to 2023. In view of the eve we had decided together with our partners a new and different spot in the south of Fuerteventura and in order to organize such an event it is necessary to obtain various permits. One of them is an environmental impact assessment. Problems arose very late in the planning process. We were forced to change venues with extreme delay during the organizational process of the Speed World Championships 2022. This change was made due to the protection of an endemic and endangered sea patella in the area of the originally planned event that the local government was not aware of.. This was a shock to everyone: the organizers of the event; the legal and professional teams that prepare the permits; and, precisely, local government.

We immediately worked to change location and prepared a mountain of new legal and procedural documentation to be presented to the local government, regional and national. This included rehiring architects and engineers from the event to prepare a new comprehensive environmental impact study and a new safety and emergency protocol..

There was a lot of hope from various entities that permits would arrive at the last minute and in time for the event. However, the environmental aspect, essential to obtain permission for the main event, it turned out to be too big an obstacle to overcome in time for the event, mainly due to the lack of staff in the local government after the Covid pandemic.

For this reason we had to postpone the event to 2023 and we will come back bigger and stronger.
We are really deeply sorry that this cancellation has now been reached and we hope that you all understand that this decision was not taken lightly.. We would like to assure you that the whole team has worked incredibly hard and at great expense to be able to organize an event for all of us speed fanatics after the difficult years we have had. We would like to thank each of you, together with our collaborators and sponsors, for the continuous support to our events. We wish you a fantastic and windy summer season and hope to see you in the 2023.
