Scheda
Nome: Mattijs Lasore
Disciplina preferita: Freestyle
Manovre preferite: Shaka e switch stance kono.
Tavola: Flare 81 l
Vele: Severne Freek 3.6, 4.0, 4.4, 4.8
Come hai iniziato?
M.L.: La mia prima esperienza risale all’estate del 2008.
M.L.: Il mio home spot è Brouwersdam in Olanda.
Sorridete e divertitevi in acqua 😛

Name: Mattijs Lasore
Date of birth: 14/10/1998
Nationality: Belgian
Where do you live: Deinze, a small city close to Ghent.
What is your favorite discipline: Freestyle
What are your best moves: Shaka and switch stance kono.
Your Board: Flare 81 l
Your sails: Severne Freek 3.6, 4.0, 4.4, 4.8
RIW: Hi Mattijs, we start talking about your firsts steps in windsurfing. How did you get into windsurfing?
M.L.: My first steps in windsurfing were in the summer of 2008. I followed a windsurfing camp here in the local surf club from Deinze. I just got the sail up and I already loved the sport, the feeling of being so free and the sound of the wind! For me this is the thing I want to do for the rest of my life!!
RIW: Who has inspired you in windsurfing?
M.L.: A lot of people actually… But most of all my idol Dieter Van Der Eyken! I like his style so much! And everybody knows that in the water he is a really good sailer! But out of the water he also is a super nice guy!
RIW: Tell us about the spots where you go to windsurf and why do you like them.(a short explanation of the wind and water conditions).
M.L.: My home spot is the Brouwersdam in Holland. I really like it there because you can choose between the pool (flat-water) and the chop where you have nice chops to get your moves consistent. What I like to do is train a move in the flat and when I can do it consistently there, I go in the chop and get it consistent there, because there is no single competition I know of, where you have flat water.
RIW: Browersdam in Holland is a very famous spot, frequented by many strong pro-windsurfers; how do you think it is important to train together with them?
M.L.: I really love to train with the pro-riders because I can always ask them tips for all sorts of moves. That really makes learning new moves much easier!
RIW: Which are your strong and weak points in the water?
M.L.: I think one of my strong points is that I can sail in a lot of conditions: the chop and the flat I like them both! My weak point is that I’m pretty small and light so I don’t have so much power for the power moves… Hopefully that will change 😉
RIW: Although you are still very young, you are attending the freestyle competitions since several years. How important is the result if you compare it with the pure fun?
M.L.: In my opinion fun is the most important, because without fun you can’t get a good result! One time I was sailing a heat and I got so angry because I couldn’t land any moves. After that I told myself don’t stress yourself, it’s just for fun and I won, so never get angry because it isn’t your day! Just smile and have fun on the water 😛
RIW: How do you manage to keep up with studies and training?
M.L.: It isn’t so easy but I have a pretty good school and if I get a letter from my club that I need to go for training during schooltime they will let me go.
RIW: How do you spend your time out of the water during the winter period?
M.L.: This winter I will probably go on a winter trip to Sardegna. But normally I go snowboarding with my friends and just have a good time :).
RIW: What’s the best spot where you have ever been?
M.L.: Pfft I think this is the hardest question of the whole interview… I have three favorite spots. The first one is Naxos, Greece. I really had a good time there last summer, it’s such a lovely place, nice people, the wind is super good: every day 20-25 knots, flat water, choppy water and onshore waves, just awesome!
The second one is Sa Barra in Sardinia for sure, when it’s windy there. The spot is super sick: flat water at the isolotto and real good chop in front of Gigi’s (Madeddu) station!
The third is Bonaire! Bonaire is the perfect place for freestyle, the water is shallow and at the pier and the mangroves it’s super flat!! What I also like about Bonaire is that the wind isn’t that strong 18-25 knots that makes it difficult for the powermoves so you must execute them perfect to land them! That’s why it’s so good for training there!
RIW: What’s the spot in the world where you would like to go for windsurfing ?
M.L.: I already went to my dreamspot (Bonaire). But if there was an other place were I would really like to go it would be West Australia. I saw some footage from Dieter (Van der Eyken) sailing there and it looked pretty sickk.
RIW: Do you feel any interest towards other sports, which one?
M.L.: I really like snowboarding! I also like to play football with my friends. And now and then I like to do some skateboarding.
RIW: How do you see your future in windsurfing?
M.L.: My dream is to compete in the PWA and get in the top 5!
RIW: Thanks Mattijs and good luck for the future.
