Intervista: Marion Mortefon campionessa PWA SL

Posted by RIWmag on 24 Nov 2022 /

English version follows

Marion Mortefon (Fanatic, Duotone, Chinook, LOKEFOIL), sister of Pierre, graduates PWA world champion for the second time.
This year for the first time the girls also competed in a unique slalom format and including both fin and foil..
RIWmag joined her to celebrate this victory with her.

RIWmag : Buongiorno Marion, Welcome to RIWmag. How are you feeling ?
Marion Mortefon: Hello!

RIW : This year for the first time the girls also competed in a unique slalom format and including both fin and foil..

But yes, ero più rilassata l’ultimo giorno!

M.. : Normalmente sì! Dovremmo fare di nuovo un bel tour per il prossimo anno … but you never know!

What do you think ?

In the case for the 2023 ci siano nuovamente poche gare femminili PWA avrebbe senso per te partecipare anche al circuito IFCA ?
M.. : Yes, Maybe, come ho detto sto facendo molto IQfoil, ci vuole molto tempo per essere competitivo e, on the other hand, permette di progredire in foil. Yes, forse posso fare qualche evento IFCA!

Marion Mortefon (Fanatic, Duotone, Chinook, LOKEFOIL), Pierre’s sister, is crowned PWA World Champion for the second time.
This year for the first time the girls also competed in a single slalom format including both fin and foil.
RIWmag has joined her to celebrate this victory with her.

RIWmag : Hello Marion, welcome to RIWmag. You just graduated PWA World Champion for the second time in a row. How do you feel ?
Marion Mortefon : Hi! Thanks for your proposition of ITW, I’m for sure super happy with my result, and proud to get It a second time!

RIW : Your brother Pierre was also PWA slalom world champion. Do you train together?
M.. : We for sure sailed together now and by the past. Even if we are not using the same equipment we can help each other on our tunings, it’s helping a lot!

RIW : Historically the French girls have always been strong in the PWA slalom but this year all the PWA female podium is French. How could you explain this national domain?
M.. : France has always been a big country on all the disciplines, but yes this year French girls were in front! With Delphine we are training since 15years together, Justine is a new pwa rider, she is really passionate, and that’s the key I think, we are all passionate!

RIW : This year for the first time even the girls competed in a single slalom format including both the fin and the foil. What do you think and what do you prefer: the fin or the foil?
M.. : We are combined since this year, it’s complicated to choose, but at the end the foil is efficient super far. I love going in fin in super strong winds, best conditions I think for me!

RIW : In a slalom season with a single event there was no margin for error and you have dominated for almost all of the Japanese event. What was the factor that allowed you this constant advantage?
M.. : I was not stressed for the event, I would like to take it races after races, it worked! I took good starts, and jibes were efficient.

RIW : You finished this event with 7.6 points ahead of the runner-up. Was there a moment in which you realized that you would have won anyway or did you realize the result only after the last elimination?
M.. : I knew if we did only one elimination the last day I was far in front. But I would like to be in winner finals anyway, I missed it by one place the last races as I made a little mistake at the start. But yes I was more relax on the last day!

RIW : This year for the girls there was only one event PWA slalom. To your knowledge, do the prospects for 2023 foresee more events?
M.. : Normally yes! We should have a good tour back.. but we never know! I’m also doing a lot of IQfoil, it permits me to progress in slalom a lot so I will continue this way.

RIW : IFCA for 2023 wants to go back to the slalom races separated between fin and foil. What do you think ?
M.. : I’m not a big fan of going on slalom with the big gear, I thing foiling it’s a big chance to have new sensations, and the performance is amazing. But I love fins with medium and small kit so why not!

RIW : The slalom is the only discipline in which you compete. In case there are again few PWA female races for 2023, would it make sense for you to also participate in the IFCA circuit?
M.. : Yes maybe, as I said I was doing a lot of iqfoil, it’s taking a lot of time to be competitive and on the other way, it permit to progresse in foil. Yes maybe some IFCA event!

RIW : Thanks for sharing this interview with us and again the best congratulations for this new world title !
M.. : Thanks again! And thanks to my sponsor for all the support the last year!
