Tavola 1 => RS:X Convertibile,
Come sono state modificate?
English Version
After having discovered and photographed the premiere of the new purefoil NeilPryde board thanks to Sebastian Kornum (Den-24) of the NeilPryde International team who has used it during the 2016 One Hour Classic in Torbole and had fun to show it to us by sailing in front of our photo camera, RIWmag reached NeilPryde Brand Manager, Marc-Olivier Leconte, for an interview to have some more information and detail about it.
This article was prepared already at the beginning of July but we waited for the greenlight from NeilPryde before being able to publish it.
RIW: We knew that NeilPryde was proposing a foil board for the 2024 Olympic games. This new RS:X solution should be an hybrid board using the foil when the wind is not enough for normal windsurfing boards to plane and a normal fin when there is enough wind for planning. At the Garda Lake we met and saw Sebastian Kornum on a new pure Windfoil NeilPryde board. Is funboard windsurfing ready for this new solution?
Marc-Olivier Leconte/NeilPryde: We are planning to release 2 one-design boards.
Board 1 => RS:X Convertible,
Board 2 => RS:FLIGHT Pure Windfoil board.
Product distributed through our One-Design distribution network. First shipments end 2016.
We are also going to release 3 foils:
1 Pre-Preg Carbon One-Design foil MADE IN FRANCE (sold together with the RSX Convertible and RS:FLIGHT),
1 Pre-Preg Carbon / designed by F4 for NeilPryde / Distributed through our classic distribution network (importer / dealer). First shipments end 2016.
1 Alu + G10 / designed by our own development team / Distributed through our classic distribution channel (importer + dealers). First shipments end 2016.
RIW: When will NeilPryde put this new board into production and when will it be available on the market?
NeilPryde: Production Oct / first shipments end 2016 / in market early 2017.
RIW: Is the foil fin developed and produced by F4? Is the same foil fin designed for the next RS:X class? Why a Company external to the Pryde Group?
NeilPryde: Foil has been developed by F4 for NeilPryde. It is a different foil from the One-Design foil. We decided to work with F4 as we believe they are the most advanced company in terms of high performance foil development. For the Alu/G10 it is a in-house development.
RIW: Will this new pure Windfoil board be able to windsurf also on a normal fin or only by a foil?
NeilPryde: It could on principle be used with a fin, but it is not the feature of the design. The board has been designed to work with a foil. The NeilPryde Windfoil is not a convertible like our one-Design solution.
RIW: Which fin box solution did you use?
NeilPryde: Deep Tuttle
RIW: Do the straps, fin box and mast track need new positions for the foil? How did they get changed?
NeilPryde: The all board trim has been optimised for foiling.
RIW: Pryde Group has its own windsurf board brand, JP-Australia. Why did NeilPryde develop indeed this new board? Who is the shaper?
NeilPryde: Shaper is Mark Nelson for NeilPryde. NeilPryde will cover the One-Design market with the release of a Convertible board as well as a pure Windfoil board. Our design team, together with Mark Nelson, came up with real innovation. We also believe that Foiling is the future of performance Windsurf racing, and NeilPryde, as a market leader, need to lead this discipline. JP will introduce a pure windfoil board compatible with our F4 Design foil, sold through the classic retail network.
