In women, Matoko Sato won the final against Maria Andrés, while among men the first ones are selected 8
The opening day of the Spicare Omaezaki Japan World Cup 2023, which marks the first PWA event / Unified IWT World Wave Tour, started in marginal conditions, Which means the best riders in the world had to use every ounce of skill to get the most out of the small waves available... At the end of the first day Matoko Sako leads the battle in the women's division, while only the first 8 Riders remain standing in the men's division.
Women's final
Maria Andrés (Fanatic / Duotone) She was the leading rider during the women's single elimination and made the most of the reduced conditions by constantly connecting elegant and snappy curves to move to the top two positions. However, Andrés failed to defeat the local legend – Matoko Sato (Starboard / Severne Sails) – in what turned out to be a real battle. Both women picked up many small waves, but Sato was able to choose the best wave of the final to get the highest score of the drums – 5,5 points – after combining three solid surfs to secure his place at the top of the podium in the single elimination.
Jane Seymour showed excellent wave selection and flow to eliminate Pauline Katz in the losers final and currently completes the top 3.
Men
In the men's division only the first remain 8 riders at the end of the first day and Morgan Noireaux (JP / NeilPryde / Black Project Purposes) he has been noted as a serious contender in Japan after launching into a high-style backloop and still managing to combine powerful turns despite marginal conditions. The Hawaiian will now face Philip Köster (Severne / Severne Sails / Black Project Purposes) after the 5 times world champion faced a close duel against Jake Schettewi (JP / NeilPryde / Black Project Purposes).
Takara Ishii (RRD / RRD Sails) is the only venue left in the race, So all Japanese hopes now fall on his very skillful shoulders.. The 22-year-old scored an impressive victory against Robby Swift (JP / NeilPryde) in the knockout rounds and will face the number 6 of the world Antoine Martin (Starboard / North Sails) for a place in the top four.
Marc Paré (Fanatic / Duotone) was able to defeat Graham Ezzy (Tabou / Ezzy Sails) to organize an appetizing clash against Ricardo Campello (Naish / Naish Sails), while reigning world champion Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing) will face a tough test against Bernd Roediger (Flikka / Hot Sails Maui / Black Project Purposes) in the last quarter-final.
