Vincent Valkenaers: intelligente, grande volontà, talento naturale della velocità!!!
Ha vinto l’ultima Mondail du Vent 2016 e dal 2016 ogni mese ha migliorato le sue abilità nello Speed … anno dopo anno Vince andava sempre più veloce non solo in GPS 10 secondi, dove era già un fenomeno, ma anche nei 500mt e nel Miglio Nautico.
Alla scorsa Prince of Speed a La Palme, Vincent, il 21 Luglio 2018 con una velocità media di 42.23kts ha polverizzato il Record Mondiale di Velocità sul Miglio Nautico (appartenuto precedentemente a Bjorn Dunkerbeck: 41.14kts, Namibia 2006) e ha ottenuto il secondo posto assoluto nella gara dei 500mt ad un soffio dal vincitore Antoine Albeau.
Questo Novembre al Canale di Luderitz ha fatto un miracolo: oltre 51kts su 500mt il suo primo giorno di sempre in un canale …
E non ancora soddisfatto ha piazzato un immenso 51.77 (il più veloce del giorno) nell’ultima buona giornata dell’evento!!! Record Belga sui 500mt!!!

Principe: Hey Vince, benvenuto tra gli Speed Knights!!!
Vincent: Grazie.
P: Cosa avevi in mente quando stavi andando a Luderitz … cosa stavi sognando … quale era la tua più grande paura?
V: Volevo davvero andare a Luderitz, prima di tutto per fare il record del Belgio sui 500mt e avere un buon risultato ufficiale. il mio secondo obiettivo era quello di avvicinarmi al record del mondo sui 500mt o di oltrepassarlo. La mia più grande paura era come ottenere tutti i soldi ed essere pronto per qualcosa di completamente diverso.
P: Irreale!!! Sei andato fortissimo il tuo primo giorno di sempre in un Canale … questa è la sensibilità del mio Cavaliere!!!
Facci sapere le tue sensazioni dopo il tuo primo giorno … 2 Novembre 2018 oltre i 51kts!
V: Ottenere questo risultato già nel primo giorno è stato davvero incredibile e mi ha dato molta fiducia nelle settimane a seguire … ma avrei potuto gestire molto più vento … se lo avesse fatto!!!
P: Poi sei stato il più veloce del giorno il 18 Novembre con 51.77kts su 500mt!!! Che attrezzatura hai usato in quella occasione: pinna, tavola, vela, albero ecc …
V: Dopo aver provato nei giorni precedenti con diversa attrezzatura ho avuto un ottimo feeling con la mia Neil Pryde Evo X 5.2 con albero tpx 100 e il mio JP custom 40 da Werner Gnigler e Zfins 19. Ho aspettato la raffica giusta … sono andato … e ho dato tutto 
P: Quale sono state le 3 più grandi emozioni della tua vita di Speed Sailor?
V: 1) la prima volta che ho fatto oltre 50 nodi in mare aperto.
2) Aver conquistato il Record del Mondo (e Belga) nel Miglio (1.852 mt) alla Prince of Speed.
3) Battere il record del Belgio sui 500mt nel mio primo giorno di sempre sul canale di Luderitz.
P: Com’è stata l’atmosfera a Luderitz?
V: L’atmosfera era davvero buona a Luderitz. Ho incontrato molte persone nuove con la stessa passione davvero grande, ho anche imparato molto sul canale e dagli altri, ognuno spingeva molto forte per andare più veloce.
P: Quanto velocemente pensi di poter andare al Canale in una giornata perfetta?
V: Penso che quando avremo un vento forte e costante, penso di poter battere il record del mondo, il canale è super veloce e anche la mia attrezzatura … e so cosa fare.
P: Come ti alleni a casa?
V: Cerco di navigare il più possibile, gioco a pallavolo 3 volte a settimana e vado in mountain-bike 1 o 2 volte a settimana.
P: Dov’è il tuo spot di velocità preferito ?
V: Il mio posto preferito è ovviamente a La Palme: Le Rouet! E uno dei posti più belli del mondo, ma faccio anche un sacco di uscite Speed in Olanda.
P: La scorsa estate sei stato bravissimo al Prince of Speed. World Record sul Miglio Nautico e secondo assoluto (vicinissimo al Grande Antoine Albeau) nella gara dei 500mt!!! Ecco perché ti ho dato il trofeo ( Vincent al POS ha vinto un Orologio Chris Benz, un trofeo in argento con lo scettro da Principe su cui è inciso forever speed, e una coppa della Banque Populaire …)
V: POS è stato davvero un grande Evento! E per battere il record del mondo NM era super; ed io avevo anche bisogno di alcuni risultati ufficiali per ottenere degli sponsor per realizzare i miei sogni. Ci tornerò anche l’anno prossimo!!!
P: Qual’ è la differenza tra i 500mt al Canale e il Miglio Nautico in mare aperto? Sensazione, attrezzatura … approccio mentale?
V: Nel canale si tratta di un buon inizio, chiudi e vai e tieni fino alla fine e sperando di avere la raffica giusta fino in fondo … Qui hai anche materiale più piccolo.
Sul Miglio Nautico, in mar aperto, devi anche qui essere fortunato, ma devi tenere la vela molto più a lungo: penso che sia meglio prendere un’attrezzatura un po’ più grande per mantenere la potenza e la pressione sulla pinna. Dopo un run su Miglio la gamba brucia davvero è necessario navigare molto più “loose” con il materiale.
P: Com’è stata l’atmosfera al POS?
V: Penso che sia stato davvero grandioso: ognuno era lì con la stessa passione e con l’obiettivo di andare sempre più veloce.
P: Cosa suggerisci a un giovane surfista che sta cominciando ad essere preso dal brivido dello speed?
V: Allenati duramente e naviga molto; anche quando pensi che le condizioni siano troppo difficili cerca di fare qualche run e guardare i rider più veloci di te … è anche questo un modo per imparare molto.
P: Secondo te quale parte dell’attrezzatura si potrebbe migliorare per andare più veloce? … Dove hai sentito la barriera più grande a Luderitz?
V: Per me non era il materiale a farmi da barriera, era più il vento che non era abbastanza forte ma penso che se potessimo fare vele che a parità di vento generino più potenza … a quel punto potremmo andare più veloci con venti leggeri.
P: Penso che in futuro potremmo andare a 60kts con 30-35kts al massimo … Ora stiamo combattendo con gli elementi … è più selvaggio … anche più emozionante!!! Se avessi la possibilità di viaggiare nel futuro … Preferiresti navigare a 60kts di velocità in 30kts di vento con un’attrezzatura futuristica ultra efficiente … o rimanere qui e fare la tua battaglia con gli elementi?
V: Forse un po’ delle due cose, ma ho davvero bisogno di imparare molto e anche ora che so meglio come funziona la tavola e la vela e quali cambiamenti faranno la differenza penso che possiamo sviluppare attrezzature più veloci 
P: Caro Vincent, ero sicuro già da qualche anno su quello che stai facendo ora … grazie per aver condiviso le tue emozioni con noi!!!
V: E’ stato un piacere … e grazie per avermi spinto e aiutato dove ne avevo bisogno … questo mi ha aiutato molto a continuare.

Vincent Valkenaers: a Star is born!
Vincent Valkenaers: intelligent, big will, natural speed talent!!!
He won the last Mondail du Vent 2016 and since 2016 every month was improving his skill on the speed run … year after year Vince was going faster and faster not only in GPS 10 second run where he was already very fast, but in the 500 and Nautical Mile.
At Prince of Speed 2018 Vincent cracked the World Speed Record on the Nautical mile and he got second place, just close to Antoine Albeau, on the POS 500m course!
This November at Luderitz he did a Miracle: over 51kts the fisrt day ever in a Channel …
And 51.77 ( the fastest of the day) in the last good day of the Event!!! Belgium record!!!

P: Hey Vince, welcome to the Speed Knights!!!
V: Thank you.
P: What did you have in the mind when you were going to Luderitz … what were you dreaming … which was your bigger fear?
V: I really wanted to go to Luderitz first of all to brake the 500mt Belgium record and to have a good official result. My second goal was to come close to the world record or to break it. My biggest fear was how to get all the money and be ready for something completely different.
P: Unreal!!! You have been iper fast your 1st day ever in a Canal … that’s sensibility my Knight!!!
Let us know your feeling after your first day … over 51kts!
V: To get this result already on the first day was amazing, really crazy and gave me a lot of confidence about the next weeks. but I could handle much more wind.
P: Then you were the fastest on the 18th November with 51.77!!! What was your equipment this day: fin, board, sail, mast etc …
V: After testing the days before with different gear I had a really good feeling with my Neil Pryde Evo X 5.2 with tpx 100 mast and my JP custom 40 from Werner Gnigler and Zfins 19 and waited for the right gust and go and give it all :p
P: Which were the 3 biggest emotions on your speed Life?
V: 1st the first time i did over 50 knots on open water.
2nd to break the world record on the mile on the prince of speed.
3rd to break the Belgium record on my first day ever on the Luderitz speed challenge.
P: How was the atmosphere at Luderitz?
V: The atmosphere was really good in Luderitz. I meet a lot of new people with the same passion really great, also learned a lot on the canal and from the others, every one was pushing really hard to go faster.
P: How fast you think you can go in the Canal in a perfect day?
V: I think when we have a strong and constant wind there I think I can break the world record, the canal is super fast and the gear also and I know what to do.
P: How do you train at home?
V: I try to surf as much as possible and I also play volleyball 3 times a week and I go mountain-biking 1 or 2 times a week.
P: Where is your favorite speed spot where you train?
V: My favorite spot is of course La Palme. Le Rouet is one of the most beautiful spots in the world but I do also a lot of speed sailing in Nederland.
P: Last Summer you were great at the Prince of Speed. World Record on NM and 2nd (close the the Great Antoine Albeau) on the 500mt Course!!! That’s why I gave you the trophy
V: It was a really great event! And to break the world record NM was super; also needed some official results do get some sponsors to make my dreams come true. I will be there again next year.
P: What is the difference between sailing 500 on the Channel and NM in Open Sea? Feeling, equipment … mental approach?
V: In the canal it’s all about a good start, sheet in and go and hold till the end and hoping you have the right gust all the way down. Also smaller material.
On the NM you need to also be lucky but you need to hold it much longer. I think there it’s better to take a little bit bigger gear to hold the power and pressure on the fin, and after one NM your leg really burns ;p there you need to sail much looser with the material.
P: How was the Atmosphere at the POS?
V: I think it was really great: every one was there with the same passion and to go faster and faster.
P: What do you suggest to a young sailor who is going on the speed trill?
V: Train hard and sail a lot also when you think the conditions are too rough, try to do some runs and look at people faster than you … that’s also a way to learn a lot.
P: In your opinion which part of the equipment could have some improvement in order to go faster? Where were you feeling the biggest barrier …
V: For me it was not the material that gives me a barrier, it was more the wind that wasn’t strong enough but I think if we could make sails that hold the wind and power more then we can go faster in light winds.
P: I think in the future we could go 60kts in 30-35kts wind maximum … Now we are fighting with the element … it’s more wild … but also more exiting!!! If you have the possibility to travel in the future … would you prefer to sail at 60kts with a futuristic equipment ultra efficient … or you prefer to stay here and make your battle?
V: I think a bit of the 2 ones but I really need to learn a lot and also to know better how the board and sail work and what changes will make the difference but I think we can make faster gear ;p
P: Dear Vincent, I was sure since few years about what you are doing now … thank you to share your emotions with us!!!
