Windsurf Adaptive Challenge
The second stage at the Windsurf Club Vico is ready to start
Lake Vico (Viterbo (Italy)), 29 June 2022. Continue on Windsurf Adaptive Challenge, the first windsurfing championship open to all types of disabilities. After the first stage that took place on 4 and 5 June at the Tutun Club of San Vincenzo (Livorno) now it's the turn of the Windsurf Club Vico which will host athletes from all over Italy who will compete on Lake Vico from 30 June to 3 July in different disciplines. The event has the patronage of the IVF (Italian Sailing Federation), of CONES, of Cip (Italian Paralympic Committee) and of the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired Section of Viterbo.
The first two days of Thursday 30 June and Friday 1 July are dedicated to all those who want to approach this sport for the first time: as always the assistance, equipment and instructors will be made available free of charge. The regattas will start on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 July after the skipper meeting scheduled at 10:00 on Saturday. In addition, Windsurf Club Vico will propose Friday 1 July a relay in Water Bike composed of mixed athletes visually impaired, engines but also open to the able-bodied. The idea of the Water Bike was born to combine windsurfing with another sport in full accessibility since for a blind person it is an inaccessible practice alone. Within the four days will also be proposed a regatta of Sup without categories open to anyone who wants to compare themselves with others.
"The choice to use school-level equipment, therefore not planing, it was necessary to make the championship accessible even to newbies. I add a big thank you to the over 35 sponsors who made this event possible.” – Stresses Enrico Sulli "The Fast Blind Rider", blind windsurfer of the Windsurf Club Vico and CSEN instructor (recognized by CONI) back to sailing despite the blindness caused by a glaucoma thanks to the support of the FIV windsurf instructor Francesco Favettini and his project "Run on the Water… Action 4 Amputees!” that from 2014 has allowed all people with disabilities FIV and AICW members (Italian Classes Windsurfing Association) to compete in the various classes together with the other able-bodied athletes.
"The new equipment has made windsurfing a sport suitable for everyone and thanks to the companies that have supported us we are able to provide participants with free tools OneDesign Method the same for all composed of a table EasyRider by 200 liters, MaverX small section shaft 100% carbon 370 and Challenger sailing 4.5 custom.” – explains Valter Scotto patron of the WindFestival of Diano Marina and multiple windsurfing champion - "A neophyte can on average stand and race in a weekend and thanks to the correct teaching method and equipment OneDesign Method it is also possible to start the disabled athlete to practice sports quickly."
The next steps, according to the provisional timetable, are:
Porto Corsini (Ravenna) – Adriatico Wind Club 3-4 September 2022
Diano Marina (Imperia) – Windfestival from 29 September to 2 October
Free preparation for the championship for disabled athletes, in addition to the clubs/events mentioned above, it will also be possible at the 2 Sides Watersports Center Porto Pollo (Sassari) by Francesco Favettini. Thanks to the sponsors who made the event possible: Maverx Masts, AL360_Windsurf and Challenger Sails.
